1984年第23届洛杉矶奥运会的会歌《Reach out》(中文歌名：冲刺)，或许是中国观众听到的最早的一首奥运会主题歌了。那年是新中国第一次参加夏季奥运会。在我们的运动员实现奥运会金牌零的突破的同时，我们也记住了美国著名的黑人歌手莱昂内尔-里奇。这个顶着爆炸头的歌手一生获得了5次格莱美奖、一次奥斯卡大奖及金球奖，唱片销量近1亿张。经典作品包括《say you, say me》、《endless love》等。他在洛杉矶奥运会上演唱的 Reach out 后来成为当时国际上最流行的单曲。 这首歌不仅仅是中国观众最早听到的奥运会主题歌，也是有史可查的主题歌中最早的。在莱昂纳尔·里奇高亢、深情的歌声中，在跳跃的电子节拍中，全世界两亿观众跟现场的运动员一起提前进入了竞技状态。
